At Farmyard Kids, the outdoors is an extension of the classroom, offering children daily opportunities to explore, create, and grow in natural play spaces. With two playgrounds tailored to different age groups one for 0–3 years and the other for 3–5 years children can safely enjoy experiences that meet their developmental needs, while still having the freedom to explore across both spaces.
Both yards feature sandpits, trampolines, and plenty of open space for running and large body movements. Bikes are a much-loved part of the day, with younger children using trikes they push with their feet, while older children confidently ride tricycles along a winding bike track. The older yard also includes a mud kitchen, Indigenous yarning circle, and web swing spaces that encourage imagination, cultural learning, and social connection.Children are free to use the spaces as they need: finding relaxation and calm on the swing, testing their strength and balance on the trampoline, or building confidence as they race along the bike track. Group times are often held in the yarning circle, while conversations, friendships, and imaginative play unfold naturally in the sandpit.
Our outdoor environments are designed to reflect a natural aesthetic, with experiences and provocations added in response to the children’s interests. Whether it’s messy play, group games, or quiet moments of discovery, educators create meaningful opportunities for children to explore at their own pace while building resilience, confidence, and a love of nature.
